This is the first year since my daughter has been born, and I’ve had my own business, that I’ve had some extra money to spend. I love to shop and buy people gifts. And this year I now know that I went way over board getting “things” for my daughter when what she really needs was there all along!

Don’t get me wrong, I believe we’re all chosen to live many roles in our life time and sometimes the roles are more easy going when other times they seem to be more challenging . I also believe that there are always rewards for hard work The rewards may be what we need though and not what we want!

I’ve worked hard this last year to build more clientèle and get my business name out there. The rewards have been wondrous and bountiful but I was humbled this fine misty Sunday evening when I attended a local food co-op in the neighborhood where I live.

My husband job gets quiet this time of year and money won’t be as plentiful. I know that hard times are felt all over this nation, but I’ve been so wrapped up in my own world and how blessed my family has been this year, that my eyes were closed off to so much around me.

People right here in my own neighborhood, some I know and others I don’t, are in need of food and having a hard time making ends meet. But thankfully two local big chain grocers have been bringing boxes and boxes of food to our local co-op and people are encourage to come and take what they need. The trucks come later in the evening and people line up to wait for the abundance that will be arriving. With bags in hand we wait to see what this evening will hold.

I had no idea this was going on, a good friend of mine asked me on Saturday, “Would I be attending the local food co-op give away”, I had no idea this was happening. I went along to get a few things but also to see what it was all about. I’m so grateful for the decision to go because I now know that I was meant to attend and remember what Christmas, or this Holiday season is all about.

• Sharing of ourselves.

• Helping those we know as well as those we don’t.

We really are part of something bigger then ourselves even if we don’t or won’t admit it. Friends and family are precious and there to be part of our community. And when we are blessed with the love and support from them, we should spread this wonder and share with those that aren’t as fortunate.

Money is only one way to help and although very useful it doesn’t allow the human connection that so many seek, especially this time of year.

So my sight has been renewed and my heart open more fully to what I personally need to do to help others in my own family as well as community. Open your eyes and hearts to the possibilities that are around you. They just may change your life!

(Thank you to my local neighbor that lends her time and drive way to be used for such nobel deeds. Your kindness is greatly appreciated and defiantly not unnoticed!)

Thank you also to our local favorite food chains, bless your hearts for not throwing this completely edible food away when so many need to eat.
